Austin Staples: Two-Stepping at The Broken Spoke!
-Come at 7:30 if you want the lesson ($10) -Music starts at 9 This is stop 6 of the Austin Staples series where we visit things that make Austin what it is. These events will be focusing on visiting places that have been established for a long time and help keep Austin weird. One of Austin’s favorite pastimes is two-stepping, and all over the city there are honky tonks and dive bars that open the dance floor for eager dancers to show off their moves. One of the notable places is The Broken Spoke where two-steppers have been spinning on their floors since 1964. Music begins at 9, but the two-stepping lesson starts at 8 and costs $10 plus the evening’s cover charge ($10-$15). It’s recommended on the website to come by 7:30 to make sure you have a spot for the lesson (I will be there at 7:30). If you’d rather skip the lesson and just show up for the music, that’s fine as well. Tumbleweed Hill will be playing live until 1 am.
